Developing Statistical Infrastructure in other countries: The Statistics Canada Experience Ernie Boyko, Director, Library and Information Centre, Statistics Canada The ability to produce reliable official statistics is an important tool for a country to possess as it makes decisions about its social and economic infrastructure and programs. Many international programs are only open to countries that meet certain standards with respect to their national statistics program. Like any other technical infrastructure, statistical infrastructure requires investment, nurturing and specific expertise.
