O'hare International Airport is one of the nation's largest airports (for better or for worse! F.B.). All major airlines operate in and out of O'hare.

There are three ways to get from O'hare to Evanston:

  • Continental Air Transport/Air Express Shuttle Bus Contact: 1-800- 654-7871. Fares: $18 (one-way), $33 (round trip). The service runs from 6 AM to 11:30 PM, leaving every 5-15 minutes and stops at all Evanston hotels. Shuttle tickets may be purchased at the baggage areas at doors 1E, 2D, 3E, and 5E. Passengers arriving at the International terminal 5 will need to phone the shuttle service for pick-up. Visit their Web site for a Coupon!!!

  • TAXI . The following taxi companies offer flat rates from O'Hare airport to Evanston. If possible, make reservations 24 hours in advance with airline, flight number, departure city, and arrival time. If you call from the airport, expect a 15-30 minute wait. Under normal travel conditions (=non-rush hour), the ride from Ohare to Evanston will be 35 minutes.

American Taxi: Call 1-800-244-1177 for automated phone system or 1-847-272-8000 to speak with an operator Fixed Fare = $22.50

    Three O Three Cab: (1-888-225-5303) O'Hare - $21

Norshore Cab Association: (1-800-244-9200) O'Hare - $20. You must call one day in advance to arrange for pick-up.

Regular metered taxi service from the airport should cost approximately $20-25.
  • Public Transportation The CTA is a very economical way to travel ($1.50 from O'Hare to Evanston) and it will provide you with unique view of Chicago and its expressways. There are three "gotchas": (1) travel time is 65-90 minutes and (2) the route you take will vary by the time of day you are are travelling, and (3) you'll have to transfer between train lines. If you have heavy luggage, we wouldn't recommend this mode! A Map of the full CTA system can be found at CTA Transit. Also feel free to use Subway Navigator's Plan Your Trip Site for a listing of stations between Ohare and Davis. Note that it provides "Rush Hour" directions

Follow the "Trains to City" signs at Ohare. The CTA station is located between Terminals 2 & 3. You must purchase a Transit Card before boarding the train.

    Rush Hour Travel (6-9am, 3-6pm)
Ride the Ohare Blue Line to Merchandise Mart. Transfer to the Purple Line {Direction Linden}. The Evanston stop is Davis Street.

    Off Peak Travel
Ride the Blue line to the Washington stop in the loop. You will be in the Subway. Follow the signs to the Red Line (direction Howard/North). Board the Red Line train and ride it to Howard (end of the line). The purple line train should be waiting for you or will arrive in minutes. Board the Purple Line and exit at Davis.
