Midway Airport is located on the near south side of Chicago and often has cheaper fares for airtravel to Chicago.

There are two ways to get from Midway to Evanston:

  • TAXI . The following taxi companies offer flat rates from Midway airport to Evanston. If possible, make reservations 24 hours in advance with airline, flight number, departure city, and arrival time. Be certain to mention that your are flying into Midway!! If you call from the airport, expect a one hour wait. Under normal travel conditions (=non-rush hour), the ride from Midway to Evanston will be 50 minutes.

American Taxi: Call 1-800-244-1177 for automated phone system or 1-847-272-8000 to speak with an operator. If you are calling from Midway Airport, there are courtesy phones at the Southwest Airline baggage claim area. Fixed Fare = $42.00

    Three O Three Cab: (1-888-225-5303) Midway - $40

Norshore Cab Association: (1-800-244-9200) Midway - $37. You must call one day in advance to arrange for pick-up.

Regular metered taxi service from the airport should cost approximately $40-45.
  • Public Transportation The CTA is a very economical way to travel ($1.50 from Midway to Evanston) and it will provide you with unique view of Chicago and its expressways. There are three "gotchas": (1) travel time is 65-90 minutes and (2) the route you take will vary by the time of day you are are travelling, and (3) you'll have to transfer between train lines. If you have heavy luggage, we wouldn't recommend this mode!

The CTA Orange Line is located at the end of walkway beyond the Southwest Airlines Terminal. This is an elevated line. Transit Cards can be purchased at the station. A Map of the full CTA system can be found at CTA Transit. Also feel free to use Subway Navigator's Plan Your Trip Site for a listing of stations. Note that it provides "Rush Hour" directions

    Rush Hour Travel (6-9am, 3-6pm)
Ride the Orange Line to the Chicago Library Stop. Transfer to the Purple Line {Direction Linden}. The Evanston stop is Davis Street.

    Off Peak Travel
Ride the Orange Line line to the State & Lake Stop. {This is at the north end of the Loop}. Walk one block south on State Street (away from the river) to Washington and descend the stairs to the subway. Follow the signs to the Red Line (direction Howard). Board the Red Line and ride it to Howard (end of the line). Board the Purple Line and exit at Davis.
